Weekend work

Hello all!  Apologies for not writing about my weekend last night.  I would say overall it was a pretty good weekend filled with exercise of course.  On Friday the workout was

Back Squat 3-3-3-3-3 then 12-9-6
My sets were: 165-185-215-230-250

After the main workout, the coach had us put our first weight back on the bar and we did 12-6-9 reps.  The goal for this was to do each set unbroken with a one minute rest between each set.  So perform 12 reps then rest one minute, then 9 reps, rest one minute, then 6 reps.

So on Saturday it was a group WOD.  We split into 5 teams of four.  Each person would start out at one of the four stations.  The stations were
Thruster 35 lb.
Butterfly crunches w/ Ab Mat
SDLHP 45 lb.
10 burpees

This workout was for AMRAP for the thrusters, Butterfly crunches w/ Ab Mat, and SDLHP.  Highest amount of reps wins.  It was a lot of fun!  I also got a friend to come and checkout CF and he liked it so much he signed up!

Tabata

I love tabata workouts.  They are so much fun!  I wish I could do it as Rx'd but the cast will be off before I know it.  So long as I continue to go and give it all that I have it's all good.

Tabata

Ring Dips
SDLHP
Sit-ups

My modified WOD

Tabata

Single arm ring push-ups
SDLHP (65 lbs.)
Sit-ups

The results:

I definitely would have had 9 for sdlhp if I had realized the timer went off on the very last round.  I lost 5 seconds.  Pay attention Jason!  Otherwise it was a great workout with awesome people.  CrossFit Impavidus rocks!

No cast is stopping me!

So I went to the orthopedic today and it was good news.  I do not have a fracture.  Well I guess that is good news.  What I do have is Gamekeeper's thumb.  I now have a short black cast to keep me from moving my thumb that I have the pleasure of wearing for one month.  After this time is up, I will see another specialist who will take the cast off and see if I need to get another cast on or have surgery.  As you can guess, I'm hoping I will be fully healed and ready to go.  Fingers crossed.  With that, today was my first day working out with the cast.  Of course I'm still going to workout!  I hope you didn't think I wasn't going to because if you thought that then you really don't know me.  The Rx'd WOD today was

AMRAP in 12 minutes of -

5 Pull-ups
10 Push-ups
15 Air Squats

For those of you familiar with CF, this is just a short Cindy.  Sadly (and I really do mean sadly), I can't do pull-ups or push-ups for the time being.  So my modified WOD was

AMRAP in 12 minutes of -

5 ring incline press
10 push press (30 lb DB right arm only)
15 squats
Total Rounds: 13 +5 ring incline

I was happy that I did get past 12 but I was pushing for 14.  Hopefully the next time this rolls around I will have my hand back.  The most I have ever done on Cindy is 19.  I have never been able to hit that 20.  Next time.  Anyways the workout went great.  I was sweating and working hard.  Believe me I know there are worse things that can happen then being slightly inconvenienced with a cast for a month but that doesn't mean I'm not counting down the days until this fiberglass is off....

Give me a break

So let me begin from Friday the 21st.

As I said on my last post

"Hopefully I don't pay for it tomorrow."

Well I did.  When I woke up Friday morning my right thigh and knee were killing me.  I was literally limping the whole day.  So with the hurt thumb, open wound, and throbbing leg, I decided I should probably take a day off from the gym.  In addition to that, I decided to call my GP who gave me a referral to get an x-ray on Saturday.  Saturday morning????  That means no CF.  Damnit!!  This was not turning out to be a good weekend.  With my newfound time, I decided to head on over to Harris Teeter, Trader Joe's, and Wegmans for price comparison on organic and natural meat.  To no surprise, Wegmans was cheaper than the others and they had more of a selection.  Looks like I found my winner.  I also picked up some yummy bison too since I was there.  So now I know where I will be shopping for this Paleo-Zone nutrition plan that I will be embarking on.  I thought I had started a week ago however, I failed to do proper research.  While I have modified what I am eating, it is not paleo.  Think of it as weeding out what I will not be eating for paleo.  Now that I have done more research on what foods I can eat, I am about to begin on putting together my meals.

So on Saturday I went and got my x-ray.  I love technology.  Not only is it digital but they gave me a copy on cd!  I looked at the pictures and to me it looked like two little pieces were next to my thumb.  Are they bone?  I have no clue I'm not a doctor.  At that point though I knew I should probably just not use my thumb until I heard back from my GP on Monday.  I ended up taking Saturday and Sunday off.  Three whole days.  What in the world is going on?  Honestly I can't tell you the last time I took three days off.

Today I got a call from the doc and surprise! I have a fracture. I made an appointment with an orthopedic and I will see them tomorrow morning to find out what I have to do to get my thumb healed and move on.  So I knew no big upper body stuff today.  I decided to grab something off the CFE site.

Run: 3x( 200m + 400m+ 600m)
core stuff

On the second round I put the incline up to 1.5.  On the third round I put the incline up to 2.0.  I know it is not much but I wanted to add something to it.  I feel much better now that I have gone to the gym.

I can pretty much kiss dodgeball goodbye for this season and climbing will most likely be on hold.  I'm trying not to get ahead of myself though.  Until I hear what they say tomorrow who knows?

That run did not go so well

As I said on Tuesday I was going to take Wednesday off and I was successful in doing so.  Go me.  Is it sad that I have to force myself to not workout?  I don't think so.  Today I decided that I was going to do the run I did not do last week.  Not sure if that was a good idea or not.  It started off just like any other run I do but a quarter into I got a charley horse in my right thigh.  I tried to just shrug it off but it got so tight that I had to stop.  STOP!  What the hell.  I don't stop during runs.  This time I had no choice.  My leg was not taking any weight without pain.  So I stretched out and walked for a minute or two before getting back to running.  It was still a little tender but bearable.  Then it happened again.  Once again I had to stop and stretch and walk for a minute.  By now I was pretty upset that the run was not going as expected.  I do my best to not stop and for an 8 mile run, there really shouldn't be a reason to do so.  I kept going though.  I was not about to turn around defeated.  I ended up stopping a total of 4 times but I did finish the 8 miles.  My left thigh was getting sore and well as both my soleus on both legs.  I'm guessing that I didn't do enough stretching before running.  To be fair I did kind of just run through the stretching.  I was trying to start so I could get done before it got dark.  Lesson learned.  Don't skimp on the stretching.  Hopefully I don't pay for it tomorrow.  We will see.

On another note, my thumb is still sore.  It will be 3 weeks next Wednesday since I injured it.  I know if I stopped using it it would probably heal faster but that means not lifting.  I'm giving it some thought though.

18 January, 2011

Front Squats

Not a whole lot to write about today actually.  My thumb is still sore.  Going on two weeks now.  My callus that I ripped off doesn't hurt anymore but I am keeping it clean.  The WOD today was

Front Squat 5 rounds, 5 reps each

155 pound, 155 pound, 175 pound, 195 pound, and 205 pound

I'm going to take the day off from working out tomorrow.  I'm trying to remember to take days off to give my body to recover.  Trying being the keyword!

First blood!

What an awesome workout I had this morning.  I definitely pushed hard.  Let me go over my workout from yesterday real quick first.

Tabata run with 12% incline on 5k pace (ran at 5k pace -30 seconds so 7.9) wearing 20 lb. vest.
Also worked on the core.

What is a Tabata workout?

"Tabata Intervals (20 seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated 8 times)" ~ CF Main

How many workouts do you know that only last 4 minutes but will make you work?  You get what you put into it. By the 6th round I was pushing very hard to finish up.  I had to really grind my teeth.  I didn't fall off so that is a plus.  This was the first time I have done this workout.  It was suggested to me by one of the coaches at CF Impavidus.  The workout didn't disappoint!

Since I have today off, I thought I would pop on over to CF Impavidus at 0600 for a change.  As always, it was a great workout.  I am happy to say I have bled for CF now.  Yes I know that is an odd thing to say but to me it means I worked and finished!

5 rds for time
Run 200 m
Lunge 50 ft
10 Kip Pull Ups
Total Time: 11:12

For some reason I wasn't able to keep a good grip with my left hand on the last set of pull-ups.  So much so that on the last 4 I stopped to readjust and looked at my hand.  Ah blood!  So that's why I can't get a grip.  I hopped down and grabbed some chalk with my right hand and put it on my left and kept going.  Thanks to the coaches who kept pushing to get me and everyone to get done.

Tonight I'm going to my second class at Sportrock.  I will be stopping at the store to get some tape first.  Trying to keep the bandage on :)

FGB, Body Step and Bears oh my!

What a great day it has been.  Lots of activities.  Well this morning was the new release of Body Step at Gold's Gym.  A few of my friends are Les Mills trainers and were introducing the new release.  How could I say no?!  I know that some people think that working out on a Saturday at 0800 is crazy but trust me, I have been up much earlier for exercise.  I have to say I really like this new release.  Track 10 is awesome.  If you have a membership I would recommend you give it a go.  I would have stayed for some of the other new releases like Body Attack, but I just can't say no to a CrossFit workout at my favorite gym, CrossFit Impavidus.  I head over there and on Saturday it is free workout day!  What does that mean?  That means even if you are not a member, you can come on over and see what CrossFit Impavidus is all about.  Today it was a FGB (Fight Gone Bad) style workout.  A FGB workout is:

"In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating" ~CrossFit.com

3 rnds
Kb swing
Wall ball
Burpees
Knees to elbows
Box jump
Total reps: 331

The total reps is the total amount of reps from each round.  So if I had 15 kb swing then moved on to wall ball, my next rep would be 16.  It was a great workout.  As CF Impavidus said on their FB page:

"Awesome turnout for the FREE 10am Saturday Workout!!! 20 folks were doing high intensity CrossFit movements, and where else can you get a workout like that in less than an hour?? We love doing CrossFit in Ashburn!" ~ CF Impavidus

After that I ran over for some ice skating.  I met up with a few friends and I ran into a bear!

After that I went to SportRock and man I really have a lot to learn with rock climbing.  Today I just stuck to bouldering and checked out one of the rooms with some practice items.  It was a really fun day today.  I'm a bit tired.  Going for a run tomorrow and since I have off on Monday I will be able to go to a CF workout in the morning.  YAY!!

13 January, 2011

Get it done!

The physical went fine today as expected.  Blood results will take a week but I'm not worried.  I was just glad it was over so I could get some food!  I have been talking to the coaches at CF and a few of them do use the paleo diet while others do the zone.  Some are strict with what they eat and some are not.  It seems to depend on the person.  I don't necessarily think one is better than the other.  It is about eating healthy and what works for you.  I'm pretty sure that I am going to give paleo a whirl for 30 days.  The hardest thing for me to give up would be my oatmeal and yogurt in the morning.  As far as dairy, that is the only thing I have normally and for grains, I usually have two pieces of bread and fiber one cereal.  The bread and fiber one I can go without but the oatmeal and yogurt would be hard.  So what I think I will do is keep those two things and that's it.  I have until Monday to decide.  I'm also working on trying to get more sleep.  4-6 hours is just not enough and I know I need to get more to give my body the rest it needs.  Lastly I'm trying to not be as obsessive at working out every single day.  The reason I am working on these three things is because I have hit a plateau.  I have not seen noticeable improvement in lifting nor have I seen in with my body.  A change like this will be a good thing.  I know with joining CF Impavidus, things will only start to improve.

The WOD for today was:

5 rds for time

20 Dbl Under
10 Thrusters (95 pounds)

Time: 12:17

I wanted under 9:41 because someone in the morning got that time.  As you can see, I did not make that at all.  I would have had under 12 had it not been for the two fails I had on the thrusters.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about my time.  I think I did well and I gave it everything I had which is exactly what I am supposed to do.  Hell I had two fails!  That is not a bad thing in my book.  When this workout rolls around again, I will not have fails and the time will be better.

I can't express how happy I am that I joined CF Impavidus.  It is just a totally different environment.  If I can get one person to see it how I do......

That's a chipper alright

Yeah.... so pretty sure my right arm is about to fall off.  Which means I need to practice more.  Practice what you might ask?  Well that would be a kipping pull-up!  Today at CrossFit Impavidus, we learned a skill today.  That skill would be a kipping pull-up.  For those that do not know what a kipping pull-up is, see the video below.

Now I have tried kipping pull-ups before but I lose the momentum once I get to the top.  It is a skill I will be working on as it comes in handy when you need to do a lot of pull-ups.  We warmed up with 3 sets of samson stretch, jump rope, something with the shoulders with pvc, OH squat (with pvc), and sit-ups.  On with the WOD:

For Time:

10 Pull Ups
50 Sit-ups
10 Ring Dips
40 Sit-ups
10 Pull Ups
30 Sit-ups
10 Ring Dips
20 Sit-ups
10 Pull Ups
10 Sit-ups

Total Time: 10:20

On the last set of ring dips (one the last rep actually) I dipped but could not get myself back up.  I used a band for the last rep. I've never used a band before but it did help in getting that last rep in.  Can't cheat have to get them all!  This kind of workout is what the coach called a chipper.  Count it as you're chipping away at the reps or the workout is chipping away from you as your progress.....either way.  To no surprise, I had a blast doing this workout.  There was 6 of us for the class tonight.

Well tomorrow I have my physical.  Oh joy I can hardly wait.  I know it is good to get one especially with the amount of time I put in the gym. I need to know what is going on inside my body.  It doesn't mean I have to like it though.  As far as I know everything will check out fine.  We will see.

Rock Climbing class thoughts and 1st WOD at Impavidus

My head is slightly spinning with the amount of information I tried to remember from last nights class.  It was really fun.  I learned about how to use your legs and not your upper body.  I want to keep pulling myself up using my arms but I am going to wear out a lot quicker that way.  I also learned about super ninja feet!  He was talking about when watching experienced climbers you will notice that they do not make noise i.e. rub their feet against the wall and they also climb with their big toe not with their whole foot.  Keeping your arms straight is going to be a bit of a challenge for me but I'm up to the task!  I'm heading back to Sport Rock on Saturday to practice what I was taught.  What is the point in going to class if you aren't going to practice.  On Saturday's they have people there that can help out which is what I want because I want to make sure that my technique is correct.  I want to start off on the right foot with good climbing technique in order to excel.

Last night was even worse in terms of sleep.  I literally got up every 45 minutes.  It totally sucked.  At least I was up at 0420 so I could go ahead and hit the gym on time!  I wasn't tired when I woke up which was surprising.  My first WOD today was:

5 rounds for time of:
10 KB swings (40 pound)
10 Wall Ball (16 pound)
20 Jump Rope (single jump)

Total Time: 5:09

After I was done with that I went ahead and hit the core as well before heading out.

Remember when I said that my first WOD at Impavidus was going to be tomorrow evening?  Well, it was today!!!  The first thing we did was warm up of course but then we got to the WOD:

Tabata Squat
2 minute rest
Tabata burpee

Total: 18 squats, 6 burpees

That was a great first WOD at Impavidus!!  I'm so happy you have no idea.  I can't wait for the next one.

Wall Contact & Sequencing

I had trouble sleeping again last night.  This time it was the I'm tired but still can't go to sleep phase.  I was in bed early enough but I just couldn't go to sleep.  I guess it is good that I hadn't planned on going to the gym this morning.  Since I went last Monday morning, I want to go tomorrow morning instead.  I know just what I'm WOD I'm doing.

As a way to help keep track of how much food I eat, I measure it with a food scale.  There really isn't anything special to my scale.  It has a digital read out and shows pounds and ounces.  If you are trying to watch what you eat then a food scale is a great tool.  Don't forget to read the nutritional information from the food as well. Here is a good article from Active.com about eating more to lose weight.

Today is the first of three classes I will be taking for Wall Contact and Sequencing.  As per the course description:

"It will teach you essential climbing techniques: smooth, efficient body movement, sequencing climbs from the ground up and how to effectively use your hands and feet on the wall."

I have already contaced them about the class due to my sprained thumb and they said today's class is more lecture with some core and leg use.  I was happy to hear that.  My thumb is still sore and needs to hurry up and heal.  Off to class!

CrossFit Impavidus, weekend workouts

What a great weekend this has been!  Let me start with Friday though.....

So Friday I took the day off from working out.  With the thumb still sore, legs aching, lack of sleep my body was not really having it.  To be fair I know I need to take days off.  That was my first day off in the last eight.  I have a problem with taking days off.  I feel that if I do I will not get better but I know that taking days off and letting my body recover is what I really need to do.  Something that I am working on for sure.  As far as food is concerned for Friday, I decided to let it be a cheat day.  A cheat day means I am not writing down what I am eating.  That doesn't mean I am going to go crazy with the food I'm just not counting calories.  A cheat day should be a day where I don't feel guilty about what I eat but to be honest I do.  I try not to think about it (which is why I don't write the numbers) because it will just drive me nuts.  Another one of my obsessions that I need to work on. Deep down I know food is not the enemy but I can't help but think it is.

Saturday was the best day ever.  A new CrossFit gym opened in Ashburn.  CrossFit Impavidus (Facebook page).  They had an open house that day and it was free for anyone to come and check out.  As you know I love CrossFit and have been following the workouts for 2.5 years now.  I have always thought about joining a CF gym but money was part of the reason and I was able to do CF on my own at any gym.  Seeing as this was a chance to see how a CF gym worked, I figured why not.  OH MY GOSH.  It was everything I thought it was going to be and more.  All of the wonderful bars, rings, rubber weight plates, boxes, ROPES, the coaches, the atmosphere.... believe me I could go on.  I had planned on going just to try it out and not join but once I got there, I knew I wasn't leaving without signing up.  Every 30 minutes they had a WOD just to give people a feel of what it was going to be like.  I was able to try out the first WOD:

1 minute box jumps
40 squats
30 sit-ups
20 push-ups
10 pull-ups
Total Time: 3:20

Let me say it is a great feeling not to have to wear a watch and keep track of time!  The feeling of doing a WOD with others around you, encouraging you to keep going and to not quit is invigorating.  When you finish you have people there saying great job and way to go.... it is amazing.  I'm not saying I do not have people who support me now, but this is in a different way.  My first WOD is going to be Wednesday evening and I can't wait.  It would be tomorrow but my first rock climbing class is tomorrow evening.  So many things to do!  After the WOD I talked to some of the coaches and they are all great.  I can't wait to work with them.  I was able to try climbing the rope and I made it to the top!  YAY!  I have cancelled my LA Fitness membership.  I finished off my Saturday workout with my favorite class at Golds, kettlebell class.  I told the instructor about the new CF gym and he thought that was awesome.

Now for today.  It was a pretty quiet day in the world of exercise for me.  My workout was:

Complete as many rounds as possible in 12 minutes of:
400 meter run
5 Deadlifts
Total Rounds: 4 +1

For the deadlifts I did 250 pounds.  The plus 1 is because I was not able to complete a 5th set within the 12 minutes.  Honestly if the treadmill and barbell were on the same level I'm confident that I would have been able to get 6 rounds but that's ok.  The stairs add a little bit to the workout.

I need to get better at writing down what I eat over the weekend.  With the exception of Friday, I should have been keeping track of what I ate. Outside of a piece of cake today at a birthday party, I did eat fine.  The problem is I didn't measure anything.  Something to work on this weekend.  Also I believe I am not eating enough.  My RMR is about 1800.  If I am only consuming that much not including working out then I have a problem.

Stairmaster, Body Combat, Hurt Thumb

Food Journal 06-01-11

So lets start with last night.  Dodgeball was great.  Even though we didn't win the game, we did very well.  I had a lot of fun.  Sadly my left thumb didn't.  On one of the rounds when running to get the ball, I managed to jam my thumb right into the ground.  Not surprisingly I continued to play.  It really wasn't hurting all that much.  After the game I went home, took a shower and went to bed.  That is when the throbbing began.  I decided to just deal with it because I really do not taking any type of medicine unless I have to.  So another restless night for me.  The alarm rang at 0430 and I heard it and was awake but refused to move.  Next thing I knew it was 0505.  Time to get up if I was going to make it to the gym.  Well I rolled out of bed and what do I get in my left thigh?  A nice charley horse.  Talk about something to wake you up.  Luckily it only lasted about 15 seconds.  After it subsided, I continued to get ready.  Then without warning, I get a charley horse in my right thigh. This one was considerably worse and lasted a wonderful 15 minutes.  So by now it is 0520, my thighs hurt and my thumb is throbbing.  I would guess that some people would take that as a sign to not go to the gym but not me!  I was running late which sucked.  Managed to get to the gym at 0530.  So now I was really pushed for time if I was to work out and get back to do everything in time to get to work.  I was on the stairmaster for 20 minutes then hit the core for 10.  Honestly I was very disappointed in this workout because I had planned on being on the stairmaster for 30 and then core work but I was out of time.

I knew lifting weights at least with my arms was out of the question because I had no grip with my left hand.  I was really looking forward to the CF workout as always but I don't think it would be wise of me seeing as I am unable to grip the bar properly.  I had planned on going to the Body Combat class so I went to that as my second workout.  It was fun and I was definitely sweating.

As much as I do not want to, I have to take the day off tomorrow.  I am going to the doctor to check my thumb.  It is swollen and I have some green/purplish bruising going on.  On top of that, my thighs are still quite sore from this morning.  My thumb better be ready for Saturday though as I have kettlebell class and rock climbing class on Monday.

The pics:  Not sure if you can really tell in the pictures what my thumb looks like but I figured I would try to show you.

Which one is swollen?
There is slight discoloration under the thumb.

Xtreme Effects, Nancy, Dodgeball

Food Journal 05-01-11

Sometimes it is a real challenge to wake up extra early in the morning to get to the gym especially when you know the class you are going to is about to really wake you up.  As most people will tell you, I get up early anyways even when I don’t go to the gym.  The days I do go though, I have to get up earlier in order to make sure everything I normally do is done in order to get to work on time.  Once you get to the gym though and start stretching and warming up you know you are about to have a great workout plus it is an awesome way to start your day.
When I woke up this morning at 0445 my stomach was not a happy camper.  Not that I did anything about it.  I just want to keep track of how I feel during this time of counting calories.  I’m not really sure if I am eating enough but time will tell.  Anyways my first workout today was Xtreme Effects.  I really do enjoy this class a lot because it is a class that you intentionally burn out on during the sets and you are meant to take short breaks and come back and push more.  I promise it will get your heart pumping.

So I got to work and picked up a latte today.  They raised the price!  Well I don't get them everyday like I  used to which is good.  Seeing as I am counting calories now, I may get one once a week if that.  If I have earned it.  Wednesday would definitely be the day to earn it after that class.  Around 1400 I was feeling a little tired and weak.  Now I'm not sure if that was because of my body getting used to the calorie intake or if it was because of the lack of sleep I got last night.  I tossed and turned last night and that does make a difference.  When I got to the gym though I woke back up for my second workout. Such a good workout as all CF's workouts are:

Nancy

5 rounds for time of:
400 meter run
95 pound Overhead squat, 15 reps
Total Time: 13:43

The first 3 sets of 400 meters I ran at 10.0.  The fourth one was 10-10.5 and the last one 10.5-12.0.  I think I should have pushed myself for 10.5 for all of them at the minimum.   The OH Squats went well.  Considering I have had 3 straight days of squats, lunges, etc.  A note for the next time.  Overall I am satisfied with the time.  So long as I get a better time when it comes around again.

Tonight is the first night of dodgeball!  Now I know you might not think you will get a workout from throwing a ball but you would be surprised.  It is great fun.  I may add one more protein shake after dodgeball is done.  It depends on how I feel.  I'm going to try not to though.  Go Shooting Lunatics!  Feel free to come out and watch!

Snatch, Body Attack, Day 2 calorie counting, lots o greens

Food Journal

So as you will notice, my calories have increased today (food journal link is on the top left of the post).  That is because I had a Grande Latte and one nugget of the Dark Chocolate Nuggets with Almonds.  That's not even a full serving!  As I said I would add broccoli today too.  The broccoli is listed at the bottom because I snacked on it throughout the day.  Two servings of raw broccoli (two cups is a lot!)  So now I currently have six servings of veggies and two servings of fruit a day.  I have all five colors.  Woo hoo!  The first workout today was

Snatch one rep every minute on the minute for 15 minutes
The first rep was 100 pounds
Second through fourth was 105 pounds
Fifth through eighth was 110 pounds
Ninth through fourteenth was 115 pounds
Last rep was 120 pounds

Snatch is one of the more challenging lifts for me and as such I need to keep the weight low in order to get my form down.  This is not one I would want to mess up on because there is quite a bit you need to pay attention to.

The second workout was the Body Attack class.  I love that class.  So much fun!

Now that I am my second day of counting calories I have to say at the moment I feel fine.  I feel like I am eating enough not to be full but to be satisfied.  Because my workouts were back to back, my tummy was a little grumbly afterwards which really wasn't a surprise.  Lets see what tomorrow brings.

Run, body conditioning, calorie counting

The 3rd day of the new year.  Lets hope that this year lots of good things!  So this morning I was able to get up and head to the gym.  I wanted to get there at 0500 but I got there at 0515.  I also wanted to do sprints but the treadmills didn't have the option.  So I decided to run 3 miles at an 8.0.  Finished in 22:30.  I know that is nothing great and I should have pushed myself a hell of a lot more.  After the work day was done I went back to the gym for the Body Conditioning class.  I really enjoy that class.  Today was heavy weights and reps not cardio based like last week.  A very good class.

Today I started the fun calorie counting.  I know to some it is a chore, and even to me it is but I want to lose more weight and this is one of the ways I know how to do it along with increasing my time at the gym.  The trick is to find a balance so your body burns the bad stuff and not the good stuff.  I am keeping track of my measurements as well as how much I'm lifting.  If is appears that it is going south, then I will adjust.  I plan on doing this for two months.  Do I plan on going two months without cheat days?  No not at all.  I will still have a cheat day here or there.  Not that many.  So what did I eat today?  click here to see.  Now keep in mind that the total calories you see are what I have consumed.  That does not include the calories that I have burned working out or from my BMR.  Hopefully this is enough nutrition for my body so it does not start eating itself.  I know I am missing green in the five different colors today.  I am going to pick up some broccoli for tomorrow as I need a snack between breakfast and lunch and that will be perfect.  Lets see what this does to me!

You may or may not have noticed on the spreadsheet that I do not drink a lot.  That is not because I do not drink a lot.  It is because I drink a lot of water and the water has no calories.  I average about 1.5 to 2 gallons a day.  I also drink 2 or more cups of Celestial Seasonings Authentic Green Tea which again has no calories.  As far as the spreadsheet, I am going to only have one spreadsheet with each day as a new sheet.
